MARCHING.COM: Music For All announces Bands of America Hall of Fame Inductees

INDIANAPOLIS, January 27, 2010 — The Bands of America Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have had a positively life-changing impact on Music for All's Bands of America programs and music education. Today, Music for All is pleased to announce it will induct three outstanding individuals into the Bands of America Hall of Fame at the Music for All National Festival on March 6, 2010. These new inductees will be permanently recognized in the Bands of America Hall of Fame at Music for All's Indianapolis headquarters, along with 23 other music education leaders inducted since 2003.

Anthony J. Maiello

Anthony J. Maiello has been a part of the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival and the MFA orchestral programs since their inception in 1992 and 2005 respectively. Mr. Maiello was an evaluator at the first Bands of America National Concert Band Festival and conductor of the Honor Band of America in 1996, and he has since been instrumental in the creation of MFA's orchestral programming. He was conductor at the first MFA Summer Symposium student orchestra division, an evaluator and clinician at all of the Orchestra America National Festivals and will conduct the Honor Orchestra of America this March in Indianapolis.

He is presently Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, where he conducts the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony and teaches several conducting courses. Mr. Maiello also has served as Associate Conductor of The McLean Orchestra, McLean, Virginia; has been appointed an Honorary Conductor of The United States Navy Band, Washington, D.C., and is presently the conductor of the American Festival Pops Orchestra.

H. Robert Reynolds

H. Robert Reynolds will conduct the 2010 Honor Band of America this March for the third time. He first conducted the 1999 Honor Band of America at the Music for All National Festival that spring, as well as on the band's concert tour of Japan that summer. He has served as an evaluator at many Music for All National Festivals since the third year of the event in 1994.

Professor Reynolds is the principal conductor of the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble, where he holds the H. Robert Reynolds Professorship in wind conducting. This appointment followed his retirement, after 26 years, from the University of Michigan School of Music, where he served as the Henry F. Thurnau professor of music, director of University Bands, and director of the division of instrumental studies. For more than 25 years, Professor Reynolds also has been the conductor of the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, which is made up primarily of members from the Detroit Symphony and Michigan Opera Orchestra.

Scott McCormick served as the President and CEO of Bands of America for 23 years before successfully leading his organization through a merger with the Music for All Foundation in 2006. He now sits as the CEO of Music for All, with 2010 marking 25 years of leadership of the organization. As son of Bands of America founder Larry McCormick, a 2003 BOA Hall of Fame inductee, Scott has truly been with Bands of America since its beginnings in 1975.

In addition to leading Music for All and serving on its Board of Directors, Mr. McCormick serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Youth Band for the United Nations. He is a member of the IUPUI Department of Music and Arts Technology, Music Industry Advisory Board and Marian University Arts Initiative Board of Visitors. He has traveled the world representing U.S. scholastic music at special events in Japan and throughout Europe. Mr. McCormick serves as a member of the national Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium. He also is a member of the Indianapolis Consortium of Arts Administrators and has previously served on the coordinating committee of the Illinois Coalition for Music Education, on the Northshore Concert Band Advisory Council and the President's Council of the International Festivals and Events Association. He is a member of the American Bandmasters Association, Percussive Arts Society and Kappa Kappa Psi.
