Big in Texas: Powerful lineup scheduled for Bands of America Super Regional in San Antonio


Nine recent Grand National finalists set to perform

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 28, 2015) — The final weekend of "Super Regional" events for the 2015 Bands of America (BOA) season includes a Texas-sized contest in the Alamodome October 30-31. Sixty-four competing bands will perform in preliminary events on Friday and Saturday, with the top 14 bands advancing to the finals contest on Saturday evening.

Bands of America Regional Championships A staggering 14,777 student performers will be marching on the Alamodome field, according to roster counts tabulated by Music for All Marketing Manager Erin Fortune. The average size of bands performing in the event is 230 members.

The bands are not only large, but also award-winning. The event is welcoming nine bands that earned finalist status at the BOA Grand National Championships within the last four years. Among those are 2013 Grand National Champion and 2011 finalist The Woodlands H.S.; 2014 finalist Flower Mound H.S.; 2013 finalists Round Rock H.S., Marcus H.S. and Cedar Ridge H.S.; 2012 finalists James Bowie H.S. and Ronald Reagan H.S.; and 2011 finalists Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S. and Owasso H.S.

The Alamodome Of the 64 competing bands, all are from Texas except for Archbishop Alter H.S. from Ohio and Owasso H.S. from Oklahoma.

The Texas State University Marching Band from San Marcos, Texas, will perform at 4:15 PM Saturday at the conclusion of the preliminary contest.

Another BOA Super Regional is taking place this weekend at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. That event will feature 41 competing bands from 12 states, including five bands from Texas. Some of the bands performing in this weekend's two Super Regionals will travel to Indianapolis for the BOA Grand National Championships to be held November 11-14. The lineup for the national event currently features 95 competing bands from 22 states including Alaska and Hawaii.

Tickets will be available at the gate. Standard general admission is $22 for preliminaries on Friday and $24 for preliminaries on Saturday, $28 for finals or $63 for a super ticket pass to both days of prelims plus finals. These prices include a $4 facility and ordinance fee assessed by the City of San Antonio and the Alamodome. Children ages 10 and under are free for general admission seats. A $5 off any general admission ticket (individual preliminaries, finals or super ticket passes) discount will be available at the gate for college students, spectators 11-18 years of age, military members and spouses (military ID required) and spectators age 62 and over.
