OSUMB delivers trademark style with British-themed show in Wembley Stadium

LONDON (Oct. 26, 2015) — The cheering crowd heard on the video indicates the Ohio State University Marching Band delivered a knockout pre-game performance in Wembley Stadium on Sunday ahead of the NFL International Series matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. A video of the band's full performance can now be viewed through YouTube.

The band began with a segment titled "The British Invasion" featuring images and music of iconic British music groups, and continued with a tour of London's famous landmarks. The band ended the show by performing its trademark Script Ohio. Among the recognizable drill forms in the performance were the Rolling Stones lips logo, the London Eye, Big Ben, the Beatles crossing Abbey Road, and — the form generating the greatest applause — Tower Bridge draped with the British and American flags.

The band's performance and the football game were streamed live and free of charge on Yahoo. The Jaguars won the game, 34-31.

Before traveling to London, interim marching and athletic band director Chris Hoch promised that the band's performance would be true to the OSUMB style.

"We're going to stick with what we do best," Hoch said in a video prepared by OSU student publication The Lantern. "Some of the picture formations and things that you've seen from the band in recent years is what we're going to do over there. They wanted something that was us, they wanted us to perform like we do, so we are going to do the very best we can."

The International Series is an effort to expand the reach and exposure of NFL football abroad. NFL.com reports that since introducing International Series games in 2007, the NFL has seen strong growth in the United Kingdom with viewership of Sunday NFL games more than doubling and the Super Bowl audience increasing by more than 75 percent.

Three matchups are on the 2015 International Series schedule. In addition to the Jaguars/Bills game, the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions will play on Sunday, Nov. 1. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets played October 4.

The Ohio State University Marching Band's appearance was the first time an American marching band has performed at the NFL International Series.

Fans can follow the band's travels on social media. (See OSUMB on Facebook and OSUMB on Twitter.)
